This is a story about perspective。  Chloe Green grew up in Southern California。  But when her grandmother falls ill, she and her two moms move back to one of their hometowns in Alabama。  Since starting at her religious private school, Willowgrove, Chloe has been focused on one thing -- winning valedictorian。  Her only real rival is Shara Wheeler, popular, perfect, and the principal's daughter。  Chrloe and Shara seem neck and neck for being their class's top student。  But one month before graduat This is a story about perspective。  Chloe Green grew up in Southern California。  But when her grandmother falls ill, she and her two moms move back to one of their hometowns in Alabama。  Since starting at her religious private school, Willowgrove, Chloe has been focused on one thing -- winning valedictorian。  Her only real rival is Shara Wheeler, popular, perfect, and the principal's daughter。  Chrloe and Shara seem neck and neck for being their class's top student。  But one month before graduation, Shara kisses Chloe 。。。 and then disappears。  When Chloe uncovers a secret note that Shara left behind, she is determined to find Shara so that she can beat her without any qualification for the top spot。  Chloe soon discovers two others are in the same boat as her: Smith, the school's star quarterback and Shara's longtime boyfriend, and Rory, Shara's rebel neighbor who has long had a crush on her。  The three join forces to find Shara。  As the unlikely group navigates parties, different cliques, school events, supportive teachers and a hostile administration, they discover secrets about Shara, the school, and each other -- and soon realize there is more than meets the eye to just about everything and everyone at their high school。This book was a delight。  Chloe is a fun, multi-dimensional character to spend time with -- driven in all things, clever, sensitive, and sometimes self-involved。  The author celebrates Chloe's smarts and ambition, but also does not shy away from how her single-mindedness can sometimes blind her to others' multiple dimensions and negatively impact her personal relationships。  The mystery is enjoyable on its own, and is also an effective lens to explore high school life and the challenges of being a queer person in a largely conservative environment。  The book also explored with sensitivity and nuance Chloe, Smith, Rory, and Shara's respective journeys, as they learn more about themselves and what they want from each other。Heartily recommended! 。。。more

This book once again proved that Casey McQuiston can do no wrong in my eyes。 This book was everything that I wish I had when I was a teen。 Chloe is the type of person I wish I had been then, she had her life so put together, but at the same time she was able to admit she had nothing together。 Without a doubt this book gets 5 stars。

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillon Audio for sending me an ARC of I Kissed Shara WheelerChloe Green is obsessed with being the best student, and she has been fighting against the schools popular girl Shara Wheeler to Win valedictorian, but one night Shara kisses Chloe and then disappears leaving clues for Chloe and two other students on how to find her。I honestly don't know where to start with this review because I just have so much to say about this book。 At first this book wasn't interesting to Thank you Netgalley and Macmillon Audio for sending me an ARC of I Kissed Shara WheelerChloe Green is obsessed with being the best student, and she has been fighting against the schools popular girl Shara Wheeler to Win valedictorian, but one night Shara kisses Chloe and then disappears leaving clues for Chloe and two other students on how to find her。I honestly don't know where to start with this review because I just have so much to say about this book。 At first this book wasn't interesting to me at all。 It just seemed like Paper Towns by John Green ,but in a different format。 ( I am not really a fan of John Green ) I am happy to say I was to say I was wrong。 This book is the most accurate Young Adult high school drama book I have ever read。 Casey McQuiston did a great job at making their characters actually seem like high school students。 Of course there was still the drama and the occasional feeling of …" High schoolers aren't actually like this" but it was very minimal and not a big deal when it did happen。 While there was the main plot point of trying to find Shara I was more invested in the aspects of friendship and the rules of the high school。 As someone went to a southern school where we had to wear uniforms with very strict dress code and were not able to express ourselves through our style or colored hair was something I could relate to in this book。 I also really enjoyed that Casey McQuinston chose to shine a light on the problems of religion in a school like setting。I personally have never been a religious person, but have been in religious environments。 I am not saying religion is bad in general, and neither is this book, but it shows how religion can be used in a toxic way in order to control and have power over others。 I really liked that this book showed that side of being religious。Lets talk about the characters。 I did not like Chloe。 She was selfish, narcissistic, and well just a bitch。 She could never seem to take responsibility for her own actions。 Always had to blame others and claim that whatever the issue is。。。 it wasn't her fault ( though most of the time it was)。 That said it was still fun to read from her perspective。 Chloe also had some character development and does get a bit better near the end of the story。 I really hate how she treats her friends。 It always has to be about her and her problems and as soon they would try to talk to her about their issues she would bail。 The side characters really made this book for me。 I loved almost every character that wasn't Chloe。 This book did a great job with breaking down high school stereotypes。 I don't want to say much more because learning about the side characters was one of my favorite things throughout the book。So while Chloe was an unlikable main character to me, all the other aspects of this book made this book a five star read to me。 The audiobook itself was good。 I enjoyed the narrator for the most part。 There were a couple of character voices that made me cringe but they didn't appear very often。 。。。more

3。5⭐️This was a YA romcom debut by the author。 This one was based around high school seniors on a scavenger hunt, trying to find their classmate who disappeared, along with finding themselves。 This one is a queer coming of age story while struggling with their very Christian upbringing。 I did enjoy and appreciate the journey these characters took but found the two main characters unlikable。

Okay Casey McQuiston was definitely made to write YA! I loved this so much more than OLS and it has brought me back on the cmq train forever。 Kate and Sara (my lovely partners in speedreading this on its debut day) have already heard some of these points heheFirst of all, I feel like I should address the 4 stars instead of 5, because I really did just read this in a delirious haze on the train to London, and the reason for that last star is that I actually am not a huge fan of the premise—I wasn Okay Casey McQuiston was definitely made to write YA! Casey McQuiston understands that high school is about being a little weirdo and imagining yourself wearing knives strapped to your thighs and going to a school that’s slightly cultish and, once again, firstie-lasties。 I think cmq’s tendency to have a cast of characters that act like the Rent ensemble is a lot less annoying in the context of YA, because sometimes teenagers really are just like that。 There’s something soo delicious about a true blue rivals to lovers arc, especially because there’s sooo much embarrassment about it! Like, ew, I’m obsessed with my academic rival, that’s so mortifying!! I won’t spoil anything but the emotional twists of the romance are sooo achingly delicious。 Also: THE FEMALE GA(YS)ZE! 。。。more

Good but not great。 I don’t love starting this review that way but it was the most honest thing I could think to say。 I actually finished this book a few days ago but I was struggling to write this review。 I just was not sure exactly what I felt or wanted to say, and considering I have written over 1600 reviews, this doesn’t happen to me very often anymore。 I loved One Last Stop, and while I haven’t read Red, White & Royal Blue yet, I’ve heard it was just as good so it’s on my TBR。 This book was Good but not great。 I don’t love starting this review that way but it was the most honest thing I could think to say。 I actually finished this book a few days ago but I was struggling to write this review。 I just was not sure exactly what I felt or wanted to say, and considering I have written over 1600 reviews, this doesn’t happen to me very often anymore。 I loved One Last Stop, and while I haven’t read Red, White & Royal Blue yet, I’ve heard it was just as good so it’s on my TBR。 This book was one of my most anticipated of 2022, and I was beyond excited to get an ARC copy of it。 Maybe my expectations were a little too high, I’m not quite sure, but while I liked this book it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for。 I read a lot of YA。 It has become one of my favorite genres because the YA stories have been so well done -the last couple years especially-。 Casey McQuiston, dipping her toe into YA was not only welcomed but really exciting in my opinion。 Unfortunately, I think my love for YA could be part of the issue because I read a lot of really good YA。 There are so many great YA stories that have made me feel, made me cry, gave me hope and a smile, so it’s impossible for me not to compare this book to other YA。 And when I do, it’s good, and very well written in parts, but it just never grabbed me like other YA stories have。 I never felt completely invested into the main characters and that’s a tough thing for me as a reader。It’s hard to love a book when you enjoy the secondary character more than the main characters。 Smith, Rory, Ace, Georgia, and Ash, were all really lovely and well done secondary characters。 They were so well done that they ended up being more likeable than Chloe and even Shara。 Chloe was not a poorly written character, but I didn’t think she was the right fit to star in this particular book。 I kept waiting for her moment, for growth, or something that would cement Chloe into my heart and mind, but it never happened。 There was one point, I think it was passed the half way mark, that I didn’t like where the story with Chloe was going and it actually put a bad feeling into my stomach that made me want to stop reading。 I did get passed that point, but it wasn’t a smooth road。 The problem with Shara was that it was made out that she was this morally grey character, this bad girl that you still could not help but like。 All of that I’m so here for, all of that sounds great too me。 Instead, McQuiston started making excuses and reasons why Shara really isn’t bad and that was completely disappointing。 We can have a story about two people, who are not always nice and perfect, falling in love。 I was here for that story so it was disappointing to see McQuiston try to make Shara into a mostly good but really just misunderstood character instead。 Let me jump back to some of the good because this is still a McQuiston book so there was a lot of good besides the well done secondary characters。 I thought parts of the mystery where well done。 It kept my attention and I wanted to know what was going on! I did think the mystery end was a little anti-climactic, but I loved what Chloe did when she solved it。 I have to be vague here but Chloe was pretty upset and frustrated so she had a little badass moment that I thought was good book fun。 I also thought McQuiston wove in the aspects of religion in a small southern town and how it could help, but also negatively affect people。 I think we all know that religion is not an easy subject to touch on in a book and I thought McQuiston did very well。There were quite a few scenes you have to suspend disbelief to get through, and I also wondered why the parents were not stepping in。 The parents were a little too absent to be believable, although Chloe’s Moms were well written in the small parts they had。 There were also a few times I had trouble even picturing what was going on like the whole margarita thing。 I could not understand what that was supposed to look like at all and how it was supposed to be fun。 But for every part that confused me, there were parts like Chloe and Shara rolling around the ground over the letter that was really emotionally charged and just felt so McQuiston to me。 TLDR: This book was as up and down as a rollercoaster ride。 There were parts that were just so well done, that I really could appreciate, other times I was scratching my head。 I’m not going to say that McQuiston isn’t a perfect YA match, it’s just that there is a lot of amazing competition in this space so I don’t think this book shined like I expected it too。 I would still recommend this to McQuiston and YA fans as this was a solid and good read。 In my opinion this is not on the same level of One Last Stop, but it still was enjoyable。A copy was given to me for a review。 。。。more

I did like that this book had a commentary on topics such as religion/God and conformity。 This features a group of high schoolers who are starting to realize who they want to be and the uncertainty of exploring their gender, sexuality, and beliefs。 With that being said, it does feel very high school with the choices characters make and how everything that happens within this setting feels like it's the end of the world (which I think is an accurate depiction of how high school feels)。 Overall this is a deep dive into the theme of the expectation that society places on us from a young age to be a certain way vs。 the consequences and shame that can arise from grappling with the reality of who we are。 I thought Natalie Naudus did a great job narrating and bringing this adventure to life! It was definitely a fun story to hear with all the clues and mysterious notes。 Protip: make sure you eat some Taco Bell while reading this book! This might be my favorite McQuiston book yet。 They make an amazing transition from the world of NA to YA books。 This book perfectly captured high school with its new found friendships and weekly trips to Taco Bell。 Chloe was a clever and headstrong protagonist but it was nice getting to know 3 others main characters and watch them grow too。

In what should have been obvious to me from a cursory review of the plot summary, this book is YA。 I'm notably not in high school, so obviously I couldn't exactly connect to this story very well。 The relationship felt a little weird to me too, and it seemed more like obsession than love。 I get that maybe that's how it feels as a teenager, but it still felt a little uncomfortable。 Even so, I liked that this book tackled some heavy subject matter and I'm all for the diverse representation。 In what should have been obvious to me from a cursory review of the plot summary, this book is YA。 I'm notably not in high school, so obviously I couldn't exactly connect to this story very well。 The relationship felt a little weird to me too, and it seemed more like obsession than love。 I get that maybe that's how it feels as a teenager, but it still felt a little uncomfortable。 Even so, I liked that this book tackled some heavy subject matter and I'm all for the diverse representation。 。。。more

This was such a fun LGBTQ+ romance read with a side of mystery! It’s a YA coming of age story that dives deep into what it’s like growing up queer in high school and a Christian community。 I really enjoyed how strong, fierce and diverse all the characters were。 I adored the supporting cast as much as the main protagonists and felt they really drove this book and stole the show! I loved how charming and witty it was, yet equally heartfelt with some all around very important messages and themes。 W This was such a fun LGBTQ+ romance read with a side of mystery!
